For sending only mail you can install instead of postfix:
sudo apt-get exim4
sudo dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config
For sending only mail using external SMTP you can use:
sudo apt-get install ssmtp
sudo vi /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf
